St. Croix Acupuncture
During an initial acupuncture session the patient’s current ailments and previous health history are discussed. Acupuncture points are palpated, the pulse is taken, and the tongue is examined. Based on the patient’s overall presentation a treatment plan is established based on the patient’s report. The patient is able to ask questions and discuss if acupuncture is suited for their needs and is appropriate for them.
Needles are used to stimulate acupuncture points. Acupuncture needles are very slender. The finest quality stainless steel pre-sterilized, disposable needles are used. Most insertions are just beneath the skin's surface and the sensations vary from person to person. Some people barely feel anything while others feel a dull ache or tingling sensation.
Acupuncture practitioners cooperate with other health care providers with the patient’s consent. Acupuncturists do not recommend altering any patient’s medications or other therapies.
Patients should not be treated if overly fatigued of famished. Patients should refrain from alcohol use and heavy exercise following their treatments. After an acupuncture treatment it is recommended that patients get adequate rest and nutrition.
